Are your exams approaching fast? Are you studying or revising at home in preparation?
Concentrating at home can be tricky. There are lots of distractions and it can be hard to motivate yourself. Don't worry! The team at The Confident Tutoring Co. is here to help. You can do it!
“We understand that exams are daunting for many students,” explains Atish Mehta, Founder of The Confident Tutoring Co.
“Our private tutors have lots of experience of helping students to prepare for exams, from 11+ to GSCE and A Level through to degree exams. We’ve come up with a great list of tips which we hope will help everyone who’s getting ready for exams.”
Before we get to the nitty gritty of revision tips, we have some initial advice: start revising early to avoid a last-minute panic. It’s very hard to revise in a rush!
Once your revision is underway, these top tips will boost your study success:
- Plan your revision time. It’s a great way to use your time effectively and to keep on top of studying. We recommend that you start revising in the earliest part of your spare time as this is when your concentration and energy levels will be at their best.
- Create your own study area, ideally away from your sleeping and living space. If this is tricky where you live, plan to study when your home is quiet so you can use a different space where you can concentrate. Or – create a study area outside of home, such as a library or at the home of a friend or relative.
- Set realistic study goals, maybe two or three items for each revision session… and a to do list. The list keeps you focussed and crossing off completed items feels good!
- Incentivise yourself. How will you treat yourself after you’ve achieved your study goals? You’ve worked hard… you deserve it!
- Choose a way of revising that works for you. There are so many methods to choose from, such as flash cards, past papers, mind maps and online group work from home. Recording yourself talking through key points and playing it back may also help. Try different options and see what works best for you.
- Test yourself. Think of questions to ask yourself – or ask friends and family to test you. By thinking through the answers (rather than learning lists or words by repetition) you’ll understand the subject and be able to apply this knowledge flexibly.
- Eat well and sleep well. This helps your energy and concentration levels.
***Bonus tip – Don't forget your social time!
If you study hard during the week, you could keep your weekend for you … socialising, relaxing and exercising help to recharge your brain!
Finally, please remember that you are not on your own. We support students through all levels, from 11+ to GCSE, A level through to degree courses. Our friendly tutors are available for support and study advice. Good luck! We wish you every success in your exams!
